Welcome to Riad Charai

Once the residence of the Charai Family and the property of the Private Secretary to the famous Pasha Glaoui, this lovely Riad boasts a larger than average floor area (1.730 sq. m.), giving it a spacious and airy feel.

It has been beautifully and elegantly restored by Rocco Forte designer, Carine Mavroleon, in true ‘Nouveaux Moroccan’ style using traditional local materials and craftsmanship, but with a contemporary and minimalist twist that sets it apart. Part of the furniture is original Art Deco furniture from the famous Mamounia hotel, including the bar stools from the ‘Churchill bar’.

The Riad Charai is an “Oasis in the Medina” that contrasts vividly with the ceaseless activity of the surrounding souks. Its innate tranquillity is enriched by the sounds of birdsong from the adjacent palm grove and the custom ‘Soundscape design’ by Famous Brazilian DJ Monica Soldan. Her music has been specially designed for each space in the Riad and is very contemporary flavoured with local Arabesque and African sounds.

  • Beautiful riad that makes me want to go back...

Riad Charai is really as beautiful as in all the pictures. It is a very calm and relaxing riad with a nice pool, roof top terraces and spa. The staff is very helpful, friendly and create a great atmosphere.

  • Charming, comfortable and welcoming hotel

"From the moment that our mint tea was poured on arrival, we were welcomed by the staff at Riad Charai. Tucked away off the alleyways of the Medina, behind a smart door was this haven of a hotel. It was perfectly situated a fifteen minute walk from the centre - a great place for excursions to Souks, Jemma El Fna, etc This jasmine scented boutique hotel offered authentic, simple food and the friendly staff, who were always happy to help, recommended restaurants and helped us orientate ourselves. One evening we were even escorted to a stunning place to eat hidden a short walk away. Thank you to all at the Riad for a wonderful stay."

  • A dream

I have my computer across my lap as I look out over the pool outside our room. Birds and calls to prayers are singing from the palm trees above. Jasmine petals gift their fragrance as they drift across the pool. If this had been a private home, we must be enjoying the master's room. Marrakesh bustles outside the door of the hotel, but we are immune in this oasis, surrounded by a staff that only wants to see us enjoy ourselves. This is heavenly. Our highest compliments.

  • A piece of paradise

Love this Riad! Ended up booking multiple extra nights because they were so great. The room was beautiful, comfortable, the pool in the middle is gorgeous and the staff was world class. Great location close to the exit of the Médina, away from the hustle and bustle of the souks. Very private, I only saw other guests for breakfast so it feels like the entire place is yours. Food was also great! Eating everyone else in Marrakech has honestly hurt my stomach a bit. I don’t know why but at least here the food is prepared very well and hasn’t given me a tummy ache.
